Undoubtedly, the most important element for life is air. We can only survive for a few minutes without air. Next comes water; without it, we can only live for a few days. After that comes our food; it is possible to survive for a month or two by only breathing and drinking water without consuming any solid food. From this, it is clear that water holds vital importance.

Good quality water is water that is scientifically proven to be suitable for health. In nature, water can be found in different places such as sea, lake, river, underground, glaciers, clouds. Waters are polluted by being exposed to different environmental pollution. In addition to domestic wastes, industrial wastes can be mixed into surface waters, salts in the soil, fertilizers in the fields, animal droppings, sewage wastes somehow mix with water and cause an increase in substances such as iron, zinc, mercury, lead, chromium, which we call heavy metals in water. Their continuous entry into the human body through water can cause many diseases, including cancer. In addition, the presence of bacteria or viruses called microbes in the water can cause various epidemics, especially cholera.

Healthy potable water should be clear, odorless and colorless in appearance. In chemical and microbiological analyzes, the amounts of minerals in it should be within the limits of measurement and should not contain bacteria and viruses. How is natural spring water different from tap water?

Natural spring waters are waters coming from underground. These are the reserve waters that the waters above ground have formed underground by filtering through different rock layers in the earth for many years. They go through a natural filtering process as they go underground, wait there for many years and return to the earth in the same way. They contain the appropriate minerals necessary for life.
Tap water is usually water from dams in big cities. The water in the dams is fed by small and large streams around the dam. Streams are usually waters with bacterial pollution that are not suitable for drinking. Therefore, these waters are subjected to chemical and biological treatment in treatment plants, kept in holding pools, the solids in it are cleaned with precipitating polymers, filtered through sand and coal filters, aerated, disinfected with ozone or chlorine and given to the cities. Since these waters usually contain chlorine, they do not contain bacteria, but chlorine is actually not preferred for drinking water. Too much chlorine is not healthy. In addition, since these waters travel a long way from the dams to the house, they can be contaminated along the way. It’s like the first water that comes out of a faucet that hasn’t been used for a while is rusty. Therefore, we should consume packaged and natural spring water if we can.
